For as long as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with the art of beauty. Photo albums of my childhood depict images of me holding hair brushes, posing with crimped hair, messy lipstick and glitter blush. In high school, armed with People magazine as inspiration and friends as models I’d refine my hair and makeup skills (Homecoming, prom, first dates…sponsored by me). I absolutely loved helping my (already gorgeous) friends feel beautiful. I loved that they felt good about themselves; it made me feel good that they felt good. It was just goodness all around.
In 2008 a friend asked me to do her makeup for her wedding. As we got her ready I remember feeling so nervous (these pictures and memories last FOREVER) and so thrilled (dreams are coming true, people!) at the same time. It was amazing to see her radiate beauty and confidence, but nothing could top how incredible it felt to know that I had a small part in making her feel like the most beautiful version of herself on her wedding day.
It would take a few more years (and some guts) to pursue a professional role in the beauty industry and leave seven-year career in advertising behind. But I DID and what had once been just an obsession finally, FINALLY became my career.
With an eye for beauty and mind for business, I could not have chosen a more wonderful profession. I love doing hair, I love doing makeup, I love working with brides, I love making brides feel beautiful.
